Spirited Away Yoga Retreat
Uvita, Costa Rica | June 16-22, 2018
Nature: the physical world and everything in it (such as plants, animals, mountains, oceans, stars, etc.) that is not made by people.
: the natural forces that control what happens in the world
: the way that a person or animal behaves
: the character or personality of a person or animal
Join Nicole McLane for a weeklong retreat into Nature at La Cusinga Ecolodge, a boutique eco-resort in the coastal town of Uvita, Costa Rica. This jungle gem, tucked away in a private reserve of rainforest with its own hiking trails, private beaches and natural pools, is situated alongside Ballena Marine National Park. It is the most perfect setting to unplug and reset to the simplicity of life’s natural rhythm.
Begin each day with yoga practice to connect deeply with yourself and the lush natural world on an open air pavillion overlooking the turquoise sea. Follow practice with a dip in a natural wading pool with waterfalls just a short stroll away. Enjoy gourmet organic and sustainably sourced daily meals, including fruit from the trees right on the premises, locally grown produce and fresh fish caught on the local beach that day. Wind down each day with the glorious tropical sunset over the ocean and a gentle restorative evening yoga session.
This retreat can be total R&R or your own a la carte jungle adventure. Opt to spend each day simply lounging on Playa Arco, just a 15 minute hike away through La Cusinga’s trails, or indulge in some of the many other options to include birdwatching, snorkling, surfing, on-site spa services, waterfall tours, hiking, and other day trips that can be easily coordinated into your itinerary.
About La Cusinga Eco Lodge:
“Hidden in the hilltops overlooking the pristine beaches of Costa Rica’s South Pacific, where the ocean crashes into the jungle sits La Cusinga Eco Lodge.”
This rainforest hotel provides guests with sweeping ocean views, sandy beaches, natural pools, and the chance to experience the burgeoning forests and astonishing wildlife of the country’s most famous ecosystem – Osa, Costa Rica. The hotel offers rustic cabins designed with sustainably-harvested wood and local materials to maximize comfort while minimizing impact on the environment, so as not to harm or change the delicate ecosystems that are working inside each corner in the jungle and the woods.
In addition to the hundreds of acres of privately-owned primary and secondary forest, the ecolodge borders the Ballena Marine National Park, developed to protect the humpback whales that frequent the coast, and one of only two nationally-protected marine zones in the whole country of Costa Rica. The hotel’s genuine commitment to sustainable practices along with first-hand experience in local and national conservation efforts enrich guests’ appreciation of these ecosystems and the importance of their continued preservation. This unique insight La Cusinga has enhances the exploration of the natural surroundings while the beautiful location offers the tranquility of fresh ocean breezes and breathtaking sunsets that make for the perfect tropical escape. La Cusinga is among the best ecolodges according to TripAdvisor, Rough Guides, and other global tourism leaders.
Espíritu Salvaje Yoga Center:
Yoga is about the perfect balance in life, we believe that Espíritu Salvaje Yoga Center is the perfect place to find your balance.
The Espíritu Salvaje Yoga Center has an extraordinary view of Ballena (Whale) Bay and Uvita Point, surrounded by the Quebrada Grande Stream and rainforest of La Cusinga Lodge. Its isolation and freedom from modern artificial audio/visual distractions is a desired location, as well as being next to the Parque Nacional Marino Ballena, the first whale environment preservation national park of Costa Rica.
Furthermore, the building site has been considered by many to be a “power spot”, charged with magnetic energy and vital force. There is no question as to the site’s calling for sacredness. The goals for the Center were functional sustainability, environmental integrity, simplicity, technological and holistic appropriateness, beauty, and well-being. These goals were achieved by using building materials present in the farm (timber and rock), and by incorporating the four elements of air, water, earth, and fire to create a unique and inspirational atmosphere. The design of the Center adheres to the principles of sacred geometry and sacred architecture, an approach based on the teachings of psycho-physiologist Dan Winter and Drunvalo Melchizedek.

“Loved the retreat a couple of years ago. Costa Rica is like a small paradise on earth and Nicole’s practice was amazing, preparing us not only physically, but also spiritually for the new year. We left NY with the snow and arrived to amazing, sunny, warm Costa Rica. The smells of nature, the colors, the sounds of birds and water and above all the food! Wish I could do it again!” Angeliki Pessiridou, 2013 retreat participant
“It was such a gift to experience such an amazing, life-changing retreat. From the laughter to the tears, my Costa Rica experience with Nicole will be with me for years. I am so blessed and grateful for everything I discovered on the trip.” Maureen Flynn, student and 2014 retreat participant
“I can’t thank Pacific Yoga enough for organizing and curating one of the most memorable trips of my life. This trip completely exceeded my expectations. Nicole, formerly a resident there, did an amazing job providing an authentic experience. We really felt like we got to embrace the local culture. The group by the end of the trip had become an amazing family of women as we did yoga twice a day (with the sun rise and set and monkeys all around us), had lovely hikes through the jungle, tasty meals, and lots of beach time. The trip had a great balance of activity and R&R including amazing spa experience towards the end of the trip. The whole experience was like a detoxing therapy. I felt so relaxed and so healthy. We unplugged, slowed down and truly enjoyed being one with nature.” Lauren Walcott, student and 2015 retreat participant
“What a life changing experience! Costa Rica is an amazing place to experience and the location was just what I needed to get out of my head for a bit and feel alive. The trip consisted of a week of exploring the jungle and wild beaches, seeing monkeys, the planets and stars, snorkeling off the coast at an island, and practicing twice daily, paired with delicious organic meals, and fresh juices, and great company. The yoga pavilion is an incredible place to start your day and unwind, as it’s open air surrounded by the sounds of monkeys and birds and smells of wonderful tropical plants. The lodge sits a beautifully landscaped nature preserve and the ocean so you have wonderful views everywhere you look. There are trails to explore and a natural swimming hole a short walk from the cabins. Nicole lived in Costa Rica and teaches you about the local culture and is fluent in Spanish so she is the perfect guide if you are looking for relaxation paired with as much adventure as you desire. I highly recommend it!” Sarah Puleo, student and 2016 retreat participant
“Our life is an apprenticeship to the truth that around every circle another can be drawn; that there is no end in nature, but every end is a beginning,
and under every deep a lower deep opens.”
